What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
It is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach that helps people process distressing experiences that continue to affect their thoughts, emotions, body, and behavior.
During EMDR, your therapist guides you through a structured process that incorporates bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, alternating sounds, or taps.
The goal isn't to erase your memories or make you forget what happened.
Instead, EMDR can help experiences that feel emotionally "stuck" become more fully processed, so they no longer have the same power over your present.
The past can remain part of your story without continuing to control your life.
EMDR for PTSD & Trauma
EMDR is well known for helping people process traumatic experiences and symptoms of PTSD.
Trauma can leave you feeling unsafe, constantly on guard, overwhelmed, disconnected, or as though you're reacting to the present through the lens of the past.
EMDR can help reduce the emotional intensity of distressing memories and the ways those experiences continue to affect you today.
But you don't have to have PTSD to benefit from EMDR.
Trauma can take many forms, and sometimes you may not even identify what happened to you as trauma.
What matters is how your experiences continue to affect you.
You may struggle with:
Anxiety or feeling constantly on edge
Emotional triggers or intense reactions
Intrusive or distressing memories
Avoidance
Shame or self-blame
Difficulty trusting
Relationship patterns
Feeling unsafe even when you know you're safe
Difficulty regulating emotions
Feeling disconnected from yourself
You don't have to minimize your experience because someone else had it worse.
If something continues to affect the way you experience yourself or your life, it deserves attention.
EMDR for Anxiety
Sometimes anxiety is about what is happening right now.
And sometimes anxiety is connected to what your nervous system learned long ago.
You may know logically that you're safe, but your body continues to prepare for something to go wrong.
You may overthink, anticipate problems, seek reassurance, avoid uncertainty, or feel like you always need to be in control.
EMDR can help explore and process experiences that may be contributing to these patterns.
Rather than focusing only on managing anxiety symptoms, we can also explore what may be underneath them.
The goal isn't to eliminate every uncomfortable emotion.
It's to help you develop a greater sense of safety, regulation, self-trust, and freedom.
You don't have to become someone else.
Healing doesn't mean forgetting your past.
It doesn't mean pretending it didn't happen.
And it doesn't mean becoming a completely different person.
It means having the opportunity to process what happened, understand what you learned from it, and decide what you want to carry forward.
Maybe you want to feel safer.
Maybe you want to quiet the anxiety.
Maybe you want healthier relationships.
Maybe you want to stop living from old patterns.
Maybe you want greater confidence.
Maybe you want to step into a new chapter of your life.
Maybe you simply want to feel more like yourself again.
Transformational EMDR isn't about becoming someone else.
It's about becoming more fully yourself.

Your treatment should fit you—not the other way around.
At Corner Booth Counseling Services, we believe effective therapy requires both clinical excellence and genuine human connection.
EMDR isn't a one-size-fits-all technique.
Your treatment is shaped around your history, your goals, your nervous system, and where you are today.
I integrate EMDR with other evidence-based and integrative approaches when appropriate, creating a therapy experience that considers the whole person—not simply a diagnosis or symptom.
Whether you're healing from trauma, struggling with anxiety, or working through an internal block that has kept you from fully stepping into your life, therapy can be a place to slow down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and create meaningful change.
Compassionate Care. Clinical Excellence. Healing That Endures.
